Gardening Project

 
At River Terrace Elementary School
The mission of this program is to educate the youth of an inner city community about local ecosystems and to promote an active interest in the local environment through the cultivation of a three-season organic garden. Through hands-on organic gardening activities and discussion of the underlying scientific principles, we will bring about an awareness of natural processes. This program will improve the community's self image, create new appreciation for the ecosystems surrounding the Anacostia River, and foster local environmental activism, thus furthering AWS' goal for a swimmable and fishable river.
