From Monday, June 11, 2001 to Saturday, June 15, 2001, the Anacostia Watershed Society sponsored its 6th full week paddling and camping adventure to the Chesapeake Bay. Although the group faced challenges of heat and significant headwinds, nearly all of the participants completed the trip and made it to the destination at the mouth of the Potomac River at Point Lookout on the Chesapeake Bay. The purpose of this journey was to illustrate the urban Anacostia's connection to and influence on the Chesapeake Bay. Paddlers, nature lovers and history buffs alike were provided with a unique opportunity to experience the natural wealth and incredible beauty possessed by both the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers.
