Please join the Anacostia Watershed Society and partners for our annual Anacostia River Earth Day Cleanup & Celebration April 21st, 2007.

The Cleanup takes place from 8:30am to noon at sites all over the watershed. Afterward, celebrate the event at our rally from 12:00PM till 2:00PM at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park, Maryland.

  • Section 1 - (9am - 11 noon) Hillwood Manor Park. From Sligo Creek Pkwy. and New Hampshire Ave., go north on New Hampshire 1 block, turn right on Erskine St., then turn right on 13th Ave. Hillwood Manor Park is to the right.

  • Section 2 - (10am - 12 noon) Flower Ave. and Garland Ave. intersection near Sligo: Drive north on Sligo Parkway from New Hampshire, take first right to Flower Ave. Continue one block to Garland Ave.
  • Section 3 - (between Piney Branch and Maple Ave., Takoma Park): Parking lot near the intersection of Sligo Parkway and Kennebec Ave. Forest Glen, take the second park-in on the right, immediately following Dallas. From Colesville, take the first park-in on the left.
  • Section 6 - First parking lot near the intersection of Dallas Ave. and Sligo Parkway (between Colesville Road and Forest Glen Road). Directions: Go down Sligo Parkway from Forest Glen Road, pass the golf course, and take the park-in on the right, opposite the Parkside Headquarters steps.
  • Section 7 - (Between Dennis Ave. and Forest Glen, Silver Spring): Playing field near Forest Glen behind the Kensington/Forest Glen Children's Center off Dameron Dr. From Pkwy. heading north from Forest Glen, park in first park-in on left and walk west across bridge to field.
  • Section 8 - (between University Blvd. and Dennis Ave., Silver Spring): Whitehall Bridge, a short distance up from the Dennis Ave. Recreation Center. From the parkway at Dennis, drive north past the Dennis Recreation Center to the middle bridge over Sligo Creek. The bridge path connects Gridley Lane/Sligo Middle School fields to the west, and Whitehall/Tenbrook to the east. There's a small parking turnout along the parkway that will be readily visible.
  • Section 9 - Kemp Mill Shopping Center Directions: Go up Arcola Ave. from University Blvd. The Kemp Mill Shopping Center is at the intersection of Arcola Ave. and Lamberton Drive. Meet between Giant Food and the foot path.
  • Section 10 - Becca Lilly Park. Entrance at Merwood Dr. and Glenside Dr. intersection. Meet at message kiosk.
  • Section 12L - (Dennis Ave. Stormwater ponds, Silver Spring): Lower Wheaton Branch In front of the stormwater management pond area on Dennis Ave. The ponds are on the south side of Dennis between Medical Dr. and Inwood Ave.
  • Section 12U - (Evans Parkway Park, Silver Spring): Upper Wheaton Branch Evans Parkway Park. One block north of Dennis Ave. and east of Georgia Ave. on Evans Parkway. Parking area on Evans Parkway.
  • Section #a - (Wheaton): Moonrise at Plaza Gardens complex 10932-4 Rampart Way. Rampart Way is on the west side of GA Ave, just south of the First Baptist Church of Wheaton.
  • Section #b - (Glen Haven Park) From Beltway, take Georgia Avenue north one mile, turn right on Windham Lane, go four blocks on Windham until it dead ends at Glen Haven Park. Park on adjacent streets.

FOR VOLUNTEERS: Gloves and bags will be provided at the cleanup sites. Plan to get dirty and/or muddy. Canoes and motorized boats will serve as shuttles along the river. All river cleanup volunteers wil be required to sign a standard waiver form at time of registration.

River cleanups run 8:30am-12pm

Bus shuttle services to the park will be available couresy of Prince George's County transit buses:
Pick-up from West Hyattsville Metro Station at 11:30AM and 12:30PM; Drop-off at 2:30 and 3:00PM

From Maryland: From the Beltway, take exit 23 which is Kenilworth Avenue MD Rt. 201 South towards Bladensburg. Go five miles. After traffic light for Upshur Street intersection, go right on exit ramp to MD Rt. 450 (Annapolis Road). Go left at end of exit ramp onto Rt. 450 West. Park Entrance is 125 yards down on the left.
From Washington D.C.: Take New York Avenue /Rt. 50 East. Turn North on Bladensburg Road/Alt Rt. 1N. Pass Peace Cross on left. You are now on MD Rt. 450. Take 1st right into Bladensburg Waterfront Park. There is a sign at the entrance.
