Sligo Creek watershed -Upstream 2
We encourage citizens to visit the sites in person in order to see the damage firsthand. Because the stream changes constantly, it may have features differing from pictures shown on this website. Mouse over the numbers in the map below, then click it to enlarge the picture.

Wheaton Branch is separated by this spillway from stormwater control pond located just below Dennis Avenue. Since the upstream portion separated by this facility is not large, the significance may not be serious. However, no fish can go upstream from here.

Foam was accumulated at several places in Sligo Creek. It indicates excessive organic matter input into the creek such as detergent, car oil, and so on.

Soapy, dark, gray water comes from Wheaton Branch. Clear water comes from main stream.
--

Darker water is coming from left side stream (Wheaton Branch). It is suspected that the stormwater control pond located upstream from this site contributes this dark water. The pond functions as a dam and makes water stagnant. Once water becomes stagnant, organic matter in the water tend to decay. Consequently, water becomes turbid.
