Lecture Series: Recovering the Native Lupine Population in Maryland

Speaker: Sara Tangren (Ph.D., Soil Science, University of Maryland)
Description: The University of Maryland Arboretum and Botanic Garden has completed its first Rare Plant Heritage Project, conservation of the state-threatened sundial lupine (Lupinis perennis). We will hear about the unique habitats where Maryland's remaining lupines grow, the factors responsible for their decline, and the successful efforts that are being made to save them.
About the Speaker: Sara Tangren currently teaches Soils and Environmental Policy at Johns Hopkins University. She also founded the native gardening effort at the University of Maryland campus in College Park, and continues to support that work through her volunteer service.
