Anacostia Watershed Society has for decades advocated for the cleanup of legacy toxic sites along the river, with the campaign heating up again recently. This renewed campaign reached another milestone on February 2, 2011 when the District announced that it had reached an agreement with Pepco regarding toxic pollution at the Pepco Benning Road plant.

DC Register notice announcing the Consent Decree and seeking public comment.
There will be a 30-day public comment period ending March 7, 2011 at close of business.
“All comments must be submitted in writing via mail to the District Department of the Environment, Toxic Substances Division, 1200 First Street, N. E., 5th Floor, Washington D.C. 20002, Attention: Paul Connor, or by e-mail to paul.connor@dc.gov. In either case, the comments must be filed by COB March 7, 2011, and should refer to District of Columbia v. Potomac Electric Power Company and Pepco Energy Services, Inc.”
