Happy Groundhog Day from AWS!

In the classic comedy movie “Groundhog Day” the main character wakes up to report if the famous Punxsutawney Phil groundhog sees his shadow and gets stuck repeating the same day over and over again.  This movie pokes fun at people who feel like their daily routine has become, well, routine! Whether it is more winter or spring weather for us, the Anacostia Watershed Society is gearing up for a productive and eventful spring season!  Many of us are probably getting tired of the long winter and cold days, but what can we do to break ourselves away from our everyday routine?

Here’s how you can shed the routine this spring and make an impact:

Volunteer- There’s no better way to change your routine than to spend a few hours giving back to our community.  At AWS we offer volunteer opportunities year-round regardless of weather.  We have office work, spring tree planting prep work, invasive plant removals, Earth Day prep and much more!  Becoming an environmental leader in your community and volunteer a few hours of your time and help AWS accomplish our mission of a cleaner Anacostia.  We are always looking for more volunteers at our events. Have a group? We can set-up an event for you!  Check out our calendar for our most up-to-date schedule of events: http://www.anacostiaws.org/calendar.  For more information on how you can volunteer, e-mail our Volunteer Coordinator Sarah at: info@anacostiaws.org

Become an AWS Member- For only $35, you can become a member and help us make a difference!  Not only will you be providing us with the help we need to accomplish our goals in the Anacostia Watershed, but you can benefit from some amazing perks such as:

• Free admission to all of our Lecture Series Events throughout the year.
• An invitation to the Tavern Toast Event! This event is an exclusive event for AWS members and is held in the fall; food, drinks, and fun!

• Receive special invitations to gatherings related to environmental protection and restoration efforts throughout the Anacostia River Watershed.

Whether you become an AWS Member, volunteer your time, or choose to do both this spring, you are truly making an impact to clean the water, recover the shores, and honor the heritage of the Anacostia River.
