Schools in Schools - Shad Restoration

The Schools in Schools Shad Restoration program provides students hands-on experience while learning about the importance and impact of Shad in the Anacostia River.

Starting in 2010, AWS was proud to participate in the Shad Schools in Schools program in partnership with Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region for another successful year of engaging students in the restoration of the North American Shad population. Through this program, the AWS Education Team worked with hundreds of local students. These students raised eggs in their classrooms that ultimately hatched into fry and then released them into the Anacostia River.
