Now Accepting Applications – Deadline: February 13, 2012
The Spring 2012 course of the Watershed Stewards Academy welcomes faith leaders with an interest in local environmental stewardship and a concern for creation care in general. A 15-class course that begins in March and spans five months, the Academy will tentatively be held at the University of the District of Columbia at the Van Ness campus in DC right near Metro. There will also be field trips to other locations throughout the course.
Many people of faith understand environmental issues as spiritual issues, and through this lens, we will empower participants to help their neighbors change how they approach specific environmental issues. During the course, participants will explore the mandates within various faith traditions for caring for creation. With this foundation, participants will become Master Watershed Stewards by completing the course and taking on a Capstone Project that will begin to reduce pollution and runoff at its source, neighborhood by neighborhood.
Applicants will be drawn from the District, Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties. Course charge is $225, but scholarships are available. This Watershed Stewards Academy is being held as a partnership between AWS and the Chesapeake Covenant Community.
If you want to expand your activism and deepen your knowledge base and resources about the environment as it pertains to watersheds and stormwater management and the quality of life of your community, we invite you to apply to the Watershed Stewards Academy.
Note: This course is open to all who are interested in reducing pollution, engaging communities in protecting local streams and rivers, and spiritual aspects of doing so. Therefore the class is not limited to only people of faith. Please check out the course schedule to apply.
