Events from 09/18/21

  • From 09/18/21 9:00 am until 09/18/21 12:00 pm
At 3901 48th St, Bladensburg, MD 20710, USA Categories: Work Days and Clean Ups
Volunteers will work with AWS to sort trash that has been removed from the River Terrace trash trap into 13 categories. We will count the pieces of trash and measure the weight and volume for each category. The data you help us collect will be used to educate the public and advocate for a better practice, such as the Bottle Deposit Bill. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the trash challenges of the Anacostia and what is being done to address them!
  • From 09/18/21 10:00 am until 09/18/21 2:00 pm
At 1550 Anacostia Ave NE, Washington, DC 20019, USA Categories: Citizen Science
This is our 5th watershed-wide bioblitz! Last year, we were able to identify 831 species with observations by more than 191 people! This is the main bioblitz event at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, the place where the first bioblitz was held! This is a great opportunity to explore the natural treasures of your Anacostia River with your family and friends. But more importantly, it will be your opportunity to do citizen science to help us document the biodiversity of the Anacostia River watershed.

Using the free iNaturalist app, make observations at your own pace and learn more about the plants and animals in this environmentally sensitive area. Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and to help you learn how to use iNaturalist to record your observations. All ages. No registration required—come and go at your convenience within the designated time frame.
