River Homecoming 2023

Three years ago, the global pandemic brought the world to a standstill. But the Anacostia River’s waters kept flowing, and the Anacostia Watershed Society’s efforts to conserve and restore the watershed never stopped. Now, at last, we can come together again to celebrate our progress and renew our commitment to a clean and healthy river.We hope you will join us in recognizing the contributions of current and future community leaders as we present the 2023 Anacostia River Hero Awards. Together we will celebrate all the ways the Anacostia River is rebounding:

• Ospreys, eagles, shad, mussels and even river otters are coming home to the Anacostia.
• New forests of riverside trees, colonies of wild rice, and swaths of thriving wetlands now surround the river.
• Miles of riverfront trails now connect residents to the Anacostia River, making the vision of a clean and healthy waterway clear to all.
