On February 7th, The Anacostia Watershed Society team will be plunging into icy cold waters with fellow climate activists to help raise vital funds for the Chesapeake Climate Action Network’s (CCAN) critical climate campaigns in 2026. As part of a fund-sharing team, half of the donations will be shared with AWS as a part of their fund-sharing event. This is your chance for a 2 in 1 deal! We hope you’ll join us or donate to support us!

CCAN's annual Polar Bear Plunge is their largest annual grassroots fundraising event. Each winter, hundreds of passionate climate activists run, walk or skip into the icy cold Potomac River to help raise money to support their work!

Here is where your donation will go:

The Anacostia Watershed Society envisions the Anacostia River and its watershed renewed, its water quality restored, its wildlife and natural habitats revitalized, and its ecology made resilient to a changing climate. We envision a healthy freshwater ecosystem in the heart of the DC metro region, nurtured by current and future generations of watershed stewards, where the economic, social, and spiritual benefits it provides are equitably enjoyed by all who live here. We envision the Anacostia watershed as an inspiring model of urban river conservation and management

CCAN is working to build a people powered climate movement powerful enough to put the Chesapeake region and the entire country on the path to climate stability. They envision an economy where energy efficiency and truly clean sources of power sustain every aspect of our lives and dirty fossil fuels are phased out; where all communities share equitably in the promise of a clean and healthy environment; where millions of family-sustaining jobs form the backbone of our economy; and where the increase in the global average temperature is kept below 1.5 degrees Celsius, protecting the most vulnerable communities from the worst impacts of climate change.
