In The News – Saturday Environmental Academy

September 11, 2026

Catherine Estes, our Saturday Environmental Academy (SEA) Program Director, was interviewed by Fox5 news anchor Sina Gebre-Ab. Catherine shared the impact the program has had in growing a new generation of environmental stewards. In fact, one participant started the program years ago as a student, then became a student leader, and is now a teacher in the program!

SEA is a free outdoor education program that is designed to engage middle school students throughout the Anacostia watershed in environmental and nature-based activities. SEA offers two multi-week programs each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Sessions are held on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at outdoor sites throughout the area. The Fall 2026 Semester is currently accepting applications on a wait-list only basis. Visit our SEA Webpage to learn more about the program.
