On November 16, 2021, the Anacostia Watershed Society was honored to accept the Local First Green Thumb Award! Presented annually by Think Local First DC, a nonprofit dedicated to the success of local, independent businesses and entrepreneurs,  the Green Thumb Award recognizes "an environmental champion who works to improve the total community through sustainable practices, products, or services. The local business or individual significantly reduces waste or consumption, creates green products, and/or provides green services."  Winners were selected via Internet voting. The Anacostia Watershed Society congratulates the other esteemed finalists including the DC Urban Gardener's NetworkLittle Acre Flowers, Right Proper Brewing, and Shouk food.

With over 3500 live viewers watching the awards ceremony on weactradio.com, in-person attendance included Council Chairman Phil Mendelson, Deputy Mayor Falcicchio, Council Member Elissa Silverman and Former DC Mayor and Ward 7 Councilman Vincent Gray, alongside 37 2021 Local First Awards finalists were Live at The Hamilton to celebrate this coveted honor. With WUSA9, Get Up DC, Allison Seymour as the MC, former 2019 Winners LISC- DC, Don't Mute DC, DC Central Kitchen, and Songbyrd/Byrdland Records presented this year's winners as they passed the torch.
