Note: This event is weather dependent

Description: AWS is excited to participate in the City Nature Challenge 2023 - an international effort to identify and document plant and animal species in our cities.

Explore the riparian forests of the tidal Anacostia River including forested wetlands. This will be a mix of tree maintenance and iNatting. Since 2017 we have been replacing the dead ash trees killed by the invasive Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) with native species not affected by the pest. It is an amazing place to observe wetland and aquatic biodiversity.

Meetup location: Colmar Manor Park, Colmar Manor Maryland, near the DC/MD line. From Bladensburg Road in Colmar Manor, turn south onto 37th Ave., between the IHOP and the Ft. Lincoln Cemetery. Take your first right into the park and follow the road past the first soccer fields until you are able to make a right turn towards the baseball fields. Once you turn right, you will turn left into the parking lot by the baseball fields.

Physical Level of Difficulty: Easy to Moderate

  • This event will involve hiking through hilly terrain, lifting, and bending. Participants will be expected to wear closed-toed shoes and facemasks for the duration of the event. If you think any of the physical requirements will be problematic, please let us know.

Registration is required.
